Philip Thomas Emory Stockslager was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Funkstown by Rev. Levi Keller. He was later confirmed by Rev. W. S. T. Metzger in the same church.

Philip's mother passed away in 1877 and his father remarried to Elizabeth E. around 1879.

P. T. E. Stockslager attended the Male High School of Hagerstown, Maryland and entered Pennsylvania College and subsequently graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 1900. He was ordained by the Central Pennsylvania Lutheran Synod in 1900 during its convention at New Berlin.

Rev. Stockslager and Mary Grace Peters were married April 2, 1902 in Arendtsville. The ceremonies were performed by Rev. David T. Koser, step-father of the bride.

They had the following children. Mildred Sarah who married Carl D. Walter, George H. who married M. Cleona, Ruth Margaret who married veterinarian Dr. Raymond Church, and Glen H.

His first call was to Zion Lutheran Church, Marysville, Perry County, Pennsylvania pastorate. During his pastorate a new brick church edifice was erected. In February 1903, he closed his labors in Marysville.

He subsequently served at Hyde Park and Trinity, McKeesport, a mission congregation. From there he went to the Mount Joy Lutheran Charge in Adams County which consisted of Mt. Joy Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Harney, Maryland. He served this Charge until 1920.

Rev. Stockslager next served at Worthington in Armstrong County. It was at Worthington where Mary Grace passed away from cancer.

He then served Woodbury Township, Blair County and then a three church charge in Somerset County. Subsequently, he served the Glasgow Charge in Cambria County and retired in 1937.

It isn't known where or when, but Daughter Ruth had childhood memories of Ku Klux Klansmen disrupting her father's worship service.
