Run down by the B&O passenger train which arrives here at noon, SAMUEL P.E. STOCKSLAGER, aged 62 well known resident of Funkstown and a rural mail carrier on RFD No. 3, was instantly killed. The accident happened at the Funkstown crossing. Stockslager, driving west in completing his mail delivery apparently did not observe the approach of the train, according to Engineer William Parlett. The machine was struck almost in the center and dragged but a short distance. It was, however, demolished and when the train crew reached Stockslager, who was thrown from the car, he was dead. A.E. Brunne, in a field near the scene of the mishap, witnessed it. Magistrate Richard Duffey went to the scene of the accident as coroner.

Stockslager is survived by his widow and two sons, Robert, Funkstown; and David, New York.
