Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Azlein, 84, who died yesterday at the Atchison hospital, will be held at the Stanton chapel at 2 p.m. tomorrow, the pallbearers will be grandson, Gerald and Richard McFarland, Donald Basil, Bill and Carol Demmon. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Effingham.
She was born at Effingham Dec. 4, 1875, a daughter of Henry and Caroline Mason Snyder, and was one of the first graduates of Atchison County High School.
On Dec. 7, 1898, she was married to Wilson Cohoon, who died in February, 1912. Her marriage to Charles Azlein took place Feb. 15, 1916. He passed away in 1948. For many years she was operator of the Effingham telephone exchange. Possessed with a beautiful alto voice, she was a popular singer of the community and sang at numerous funerals, weddings, church services, and entertainments. She was a member of the Atchison Christian church. She resided in Atchison the past 15 years. Her residence here was at 441 South Seventh.
She had been bedfast since suffering a broken hip in 1957, and received devoted care by her daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Margery) Demmon and Mrs. Paul (Irene) McFarland. She also leaves four sons, Dale Cohoon, Paola; Harry Cohoon, Independence, Mo.; Walter Cohoon, Kansas City, Kas., and the Rev. Arthur Azlein, paster of the Michigan Boulevard Christian church, Washington, D. C.; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Robinson, Denver, the last of a family of 11 children.
