MRS. GLAUD L. SMITH, SR.
Mrs. Avis Hopkins Smith, of 3700 Vermont, Independence, died today at the home.

She was born in Lamoni, Iowa, and lived in this area from 1922 until 1941 when she moved to New York. She returned to Independence 11 years ago.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saint Ridgewood Church.

She leaves her husband, Glaud Leslie Smith, Sr., of the home, a daughter, Mrs. Floralee Harwood, Del Rio, Tex.; a son, Glaud L. Smith, Jr., 3342 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Independence; a sister, Mrs. Viola Meyers, Winnetka, Ill.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Speaks Chapel; graveside services at 2 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
