GOESSEL -- Margaret Duerksen, 87, retired homemaker of Goessel, died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
She was born Jan. 6, 1912, in rural Hillsboro to H.D.G. and Maria (Goossen) Schmidt. She married Ernest Duerksen May 1, 1940, in Goessel. He preceded her in death April 29, 1992.
She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, King's Daughters Sewing Circle and Bethesda Home Quilters.
Survivors include: four daughters, Carol Flaming of rural Hillsboro, Verdeene Shepherd of Kansas City, Mo., Elaine Duerksen of McPherson and Maxine Von Riesen of Beatrice, Neb.; one sister, Elizabeth Klassen of Goessel; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry M. Schmidt and Jacob P. Schmidt; three sisters, Marie Klassen, Martha Janzen and Frieda Schroeder; and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with the Revs. James Dunn and Mark Wiens officiating. Burial was in the Alexanderwohl Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Bethesda Home or Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
