At the age of six, Francis wrote a poem that was included by Louisa May Alcott in her book, "Under the Lilacs".
Francis Sanborn lived his adult life in Plainfield, New Jersey, where he worked in the iron and steel business. He married Mary Agnes DeCourcy and they had a son, Francis Junior. Late in their lives, Frank B. and Louisa Sanborn spent winter-months in New Jersey with Francis and his family, and it was here that Frank Sanborn broke his hip and subsequently died.
Francis Sanborn was cremated and his remains interred at Sleepy Hollow - June 2, 1954. His wife, Mary, was also cremated and remains were interred at Sleepy Hollow - Sept 21, 1973.
