A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Emily Duvall Sloan and the son of the late John T. and Janie Smith Sloan.
He was a retired employee of Lyman Printing and Finishing, a member of Selma Baptist Church, Bethel Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded The Bronze Star and The Purple Heart.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the home, include two sons, Randy Sloan and Wayne Sloan of Woodruff; two brothers, Rev. Dr. James T. Sloan and Joe Sloan of Woodruff; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
One son, William Terry Sloan, one daughter, Sandra Sloan Horton, six brothers, Olive, Marvin, Ed, Billie, Jack and Eddie Sloan predeceased him.
Visitation will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2006, at Forest Hills Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2006, in the chapel of Forest Hills Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Fred Quidley, Rev. Dr. James T. Sloan and Rev. Carlos Watson.
Interment will follow in Selma Baptist Church Cemetery.
