Margaret A. Rude, 91, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Havelock, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 29 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with Pastor Paul Bengtson officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery near Pocahontas, Iowa.
Margaret Alberta Phillips was born September 2, 1920 to Albert and Ann (Pascal) Phillips.
She was raised in rural Pocahontas, Iowa, attending country school and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1937.
She then attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. During WWII, Margaret was employed with the Veteran's Administration in New York, N.Y., and in Washington, D.C. Margaret married Byron Rude May 1, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Pocahontas. They soon moved to Havelock and remained there all their married life. They enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Texas.
Byron died January 23, 1998. Margaret moved August 3, 2001 to the Bird Island Healthcare Manor and most recently, the Good Samaritan Society Center in Redwood Falls.
Margaret dedicated her life to her family, community and church. She enjoyed the school and community activities her children and grandchildren were part of.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, where she taught Sunday school for 16 years and served on many women's groups. She was an avid seamstress.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, holding many offices. She served on the Havelock Housing Commission. Margaret was also a member of Garden Club, the Sunshine Club, and Wednesday Club.
She loved to garden and shared her flowers with many, including her flower arrangements she entered at the Country fair, often earning purple ribbons for her creativity.
Margaret is survived by her son Jim (Jill) Rude of Bird Island, daughter, Judy (James) Hacker of Redwood Falls; five grandchildren: Corey (Jill), Jay (Shawnna), Luke, Annissa (Jonathan) Groe, and Philip Hacker; one great-granddaughter, Malea Rude and siblings: Grace Hoag, Humboldt, Iowa, Ruth Miller, Versailles, Ky., Claude (Marha) Spirit Lake, Iowa and Walter (Mary) Pocahontas, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Imogene Schoon.
