Joseph married Magdalena (went by Mary) Weavil (1790-1873) in c1807 at presumably Stokes (now Forsyth) or Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina.
Joseph and Mary were the parents of eleven known children, namely:
1. Catherina Rothrock Hinsdale (1807-1880)
2. Phillip Rothrock (1810 - 1850)
3. Eva Elizabeth Rothrock (1812-???)
4. John Rothrock (1815 - 1896)
5. Mary Lucinda Rothrock White (1817-1907)
6. Phillipina Rothrock (1821-1842)
7. Joseph Rothrock (1824-1903)
8. Sallie Rothrock (c1827-???)
9. Franklin Rothrock (1830-1864)
10. Louretta M. Rothrock (1836-???)
11. Mariah Elizabeth Rothrock Clodfelter (1838-1929)
In 1850 Joseph (a farmer, value of real estate owned: $400), Mary, and children: Elisabeth, Mary, Sally, Franklin, Loretta and Mariah were living at the Northern Division, Davidson County, North Carolina. In 1860 Joseph (a farmer, value of real estate owned: $700; value of personal estate $200), Mary son Franklin and his family were living at the Northern Division, Davidson County, North Carolina. In 1870 Joseph (no occupation, no value of property or estate) and Mary were living alone (next door to son Joseph) at Browntown Township, Davidson County, North Carolina. Were Loretta and Mariah really children of Joseph and Mary? Or were they grandchildren? Perhaps children (perhaps out of wedlock) of Catherine, Eva, Mary, Phillipina or Sallie? Mary would have been 46 when Loretta was born and 48 when Mariah was born, extremely elderly for that day and age.
Mary was the daughter of Stephen Weavil (b. c1740 at Rotterdam, Holland, d. 1822 at Davidson County, North Carolina) and Caterena (Catherine) Bennett (b. c1757 at NC, d. c1807 at NC). The surname Weavil is often spelled Wibel or Weibel in early Moravian records.
