Andrew Riippa was the son of Joel and Marija (Evonen) Riippa. He was a lifelong bachelor who lived the entirety of his life in and around Winona, Michigan, where he was employed by his younger brothers John and Arnold in the Riippa Lumber Company.
The third of ten children, Andrew had, in addition to John and Arnold, two elder brothers, James and Yalmer. He also had five sisters: Helmi, Julia, Lempi, Esther, and Alina.
He died of complications following surgery to remove an ulcer.
