Leona Grace Bowthorpe was born on March 21, 1926 in Vernal,to Jesse and Pearl Richins. She grew up in the Davis area with her nine siblings.

She married Marlo Bowthorpe in Vernal on Oct. 9, 1946. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple

She was active in the church, and loved the gospel with all her heart. She served as the Relief Society President, Primary President, amongst many other callings. She loved reading the scriptures and going to the temple. Her favorite pastime was spending time caring for the people she loved most, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She died peacefully in her sleep on April 28. She fought valiantly to the end. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven of her siblings; her two sons Greg and Chris Bowthorpe; two granddaughters Brook and Kimberly Brown; and one Great-Granddaughter, Brinlee Sue Ash.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Marlo Bowthorpe; her three daughters; Pam and her husband Eddie Brown, Marsha, and her husband John Kay, Julie, and her husband Kenny Stewart; her daughter-in-law Sharon Bowthorpe; along with 12 living grandchildren; 27 living Great-Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Lyle Richins; and sister Venna Barrett.

Funeral services were held Friday May 1, 2009 at the Uintah Stake Center. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

Our sincerest thank you to all the family, friends, and neighbors who have provided food, flowers, and support or service in any way. We would also like to thank the compassionate service of the Davis 2nd Ward Relief Society. And all the nurses and caretakers from the Good Shepard Hospice.

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Leona Grace Bowthorpe returned home to her Heavenly Father on April 28.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President, Primary President and many other callings. She loved reading the scriptures and attending the Temple. Her favorite pastime was spending time caring for the people she loved most, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, camping and being with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Buried in the loving arms of her great-grandmother, Brinlee Sue Ash; sweet infant daughter of Kevin and Caradie Ash was born and received into the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 4, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. May 1, at the Uintah Stake Center, 4080 S. 2500 E. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
