In the passing of John Nicholson another true and sincere friend has left our circle. The summons came Sunday evening, after a lingering illness. He was known by his many friends as a quiet, unassuming and unpretentious character, yet of a kind and congenial disposition, which won him love and esteem of all who knew him. John Nicholson, eldest son of Michael Nicholson and Mary Walsh, was born in Maysville, KY on August 7, 1852, and passed away at the St. Joseph Orphanage in Abilene, Sunday evening, January 26, at the age of 80 years. He came to Kansas with his parents in 1871. For the past 30 years he has made his home at St. Joseph's Orphanage in Abilene, where he was employed as a custodian.

Requiem high mass was celebrated in the chapel at the orphanage on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clockm by Father Roche. The remains were brought to Chapman to the home of his sister, Mrs. M.B. Nicholas, to await the funeral hour of 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Michael's Catholic church. Interment was made in the family lot in St. Patrick's cemetery. The pallbearers were Edward J. Lorson, John Keegan and John Keating, Sr. of Chapman and Messrs. Maricott, Celtman and Weeishaar, of Abilene.

The deceased leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, W.B. Nicholson, Chapman; three sisters, Mrs. M.B. Nicholas and Mrs. Thomas Cushing, Chapman; and Mrs. William Hannan, of Ogden, and a number of nieces and nephews.
