She was born on May 29, 1915 in Providence, the daughter of Franz and Augusta Wegner Mendelkow. She married William George Nielson on September 27, 1938 in the Logan Temple. They lived in Providence with their four children. William passed away on July 20, 1960.
Helen attended elementary school in Providence and graduated from South Cache High school in 1933. She was member of the Providence 2nd Ward where she held various positions in Primary, Sunday School, and MIA. She really enjoyed working with youth in the church.
Helen raised four children as a single parent. She worked for almost 30 years and retired as a seamstress from ZCMI. She enjoyed being a friend to everyone she met. If you became her friend you were her friend for life. Her greatest passions in life were cooking, sewing and gardening and being surrounded by her family.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and eight sisters. She will be missed by all those who knew her. The family would like to thank all of those who provided care for her.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Tuesday October 18, 2005 at the Providence City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
