Obituary:

June Mendelkow Nielsen, 84, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Providence on Aug. 22, 2004.

She was born in Providence on July 17, 1920 to Franz and Auguste Wegner Mendelkow. She was the twelfth of fifteen children. She married Kenneth James Nielsen on June 27, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1992.

She attended and graduated from South Cache High School and then trained to be a dental assistant before her marriage. After her children were raised she was a school cook at Lincoln Elementary. But her favorite occupation was that of wife, mother, and homemaker.

She was a member of the LDS church with her first calling after her marriage being secretary to the Young Women's organization. She also taught Primary for many years and was a visiting teacher. Her most favorite calling was being a member of the choir. Every Christmas she would perform in the choir cantata. She was also very proud to be a member of the American Legionnaires Club and continued that membership up to her death.

June enjoyed sewing and cooking and excelled at both. She was known for her yummy rolls and cinnamon rolls. She loved being with friends and relatives and spent many hours visiting them or having them in her home. She always made time for them. Mom loved to laugh and have fun with her family. She also loved to go for rides around this beautiful valley. Susan, her daughter, took her for her last long ride this winter to the Hardware Ranch.

She is survived by three daughters and one son, Susan of Smithfield, Trish (Terry) Cummings of Providence, Lynda (Tomas) Misik of Clearfield, and Blayne (Cherry) Nielsen of Providence; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren plus one due in October; three sisters, Helen Nielson, Pearl Mendelkow, and Phyllis Nebeker all of Providence. Two sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law, Gayle Mendelkow of Providence and Lois and Ralph Stoddard of Sandy. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Kenneth Dee Nielsen, and 5 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Fruitland Acres Church, 155 North 100 East in Providence with Bishop Frank Fuhriman conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center in Logan or on Saturday from 10:30 to 11 :30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Paradise cemetery.

Mom, we want you to know how very much you are loved and thank you for being our mom and grandma. We will miss the twinkle in your eyes and your sweet smile. We love you!
