US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt McGue enlisted into the US Army on December 23, 1872, in Troy, NY. He was described as 5'4", black hair, brown eyes, with a dark complexion. His civilian occupation was laborer. On February 11, 1873, McGue was assigned to Company L, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at New Orleans, LA. Company L was commanded by LTC George A Custer's and Captain Tom Custer's brother-in-law, 1st Lt James Calhoun. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company L was assigned to Custer's battalion. McGue was killed during the battle. His body was never positively identified. After the battle most of Company L was found on Calhoun Ridge. A few soldiers' bodies from Company L were also found near Captain Keogh's last position and on Last Stand Hill. It is likely McGue's unidentified remains were first buried where they had been found. In 1881, all known battlefield remains were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
