Catherine A. Mathewson, 80, of 1977 Prentisvale Road, Eldred, passed away Tuesday (July 2, 2013) at Bradford Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1932, in Port Allegany, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mildred Steelman Acre. On Dec. 25, 1948, in Eldred, she married Francis G. Mathewson, who passed away Sept. 3, 1992.
Catherine resided here since 1974 and owned and operated Mathewson's Country Store. She enjoyed reading, board games with her family, word search puzzles and taking care of her pets.
Surviving are a son, two daughters, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Francis J. Mathewson in 1988; and a sister, Ellen Cochran.
Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, followed by funeral and committal services in the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Eppley of Eldred officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery in Eldred.
