Son of Mrs. Florence F. Purvis who resided in Beach, North Dakota.

Robert served as a Staff Sergeant & Left Waist Gunner on B-24H #41-29423, 786th Bomber Squadron, 466th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Dawson County, Montana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 14, 1941 in Missoula, Montana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Railroad clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #41-29423 took off from Attlebridge, England on a bombing mission over Oschersleben, Germany. They were attacked by German fighter planes which damaged the #1 engine causing them to crash in Germany during the war. One parachute was seen leaving the B-24.

Robert was "Killed In Action" on this mission.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
