Graveside services for Lillian Martin "Sweetpea" Byrd will be held Monday, June 29, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Brian Gordon and Rev. Carl Grubs officiating. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery. There is no public visitation.

Mrs. Byrd, 73, of Pearl died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at UMC Jackson.

Sweetpea, as she was known, was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Meridian to E. K. and Frances Holbrook Martin.

She loved to dance, walk, tend to her plants, spend valuable time with family and friends, watch baseball and greet everyone with her wonderful sweetpea smile. She was employed with Boyte Honda and worked until Wednesday of this week. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, June 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pearl United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children: daughters, Kathy West (Don), Charlotte Golloway (Sunny); sons Chuck Byrd (Sandra) and Phillip Byrd; brothers, David Lucky and Wallace Lucky (Aline); grandchildren: Katie Diggs (Wyn), Sunni Kate Moore (Jared), Sharon Bennett (Brett), Ronnie Abney, Taylor Golloway, Stephen Byrd and Callen Golloway; great-grandchildren: Colston Bennett and Brooke Gowan; and, her dog, Precious.

Pallbearers will be Don West, Wyn Diggs, Sunny Golloway, Bret Bennett and Jared Moore.

Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Usry, Dewey Porter, Senior Players of 2008 Pearl Baseball team, Judge Thomas Zebert, Ben Sills, Terry Plummer, Richard Peden and New beginning Sunday School Class.
