Charles Norman Byrd, 82, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016


Norman was born on July 4, 1934 In Meridian where he spent all of his youth and most of his adult life. He retired as manager of a Large Strip Complex in Arlington, Texas and moved to Chattanooga, in 2000. He was affectionately known as "Rocky" to his teammates on the Meridian Wildcats Team.



Norman served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. When he was promoted to Sargent, he was the youngest enlisted man to receive that honor in the entire Marine Corp.


Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Odell Byrd


Norman is survived by his loving companion, Joyce Harrison; Children, Kathy ( Don) West, Charlotte ( Sunny) Golloway, Charles Norman ( Sandra) Byrd, Jr. and Phillip Byrd; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.


The family will receive friends on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 10am to 11 am at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 am on Friday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors, a reception to follow at the families residence.


In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
