Howard M. Mahler, 88, of Fanwood, N.J., formerly of Jersey City, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the Center for Hope Hospice in Fanwood. Visitation will be held at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Ave., Jersey City, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Jersey City, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Mahler was a graduate of St. Peter's College. He served during World War II in the United States Army in both North Africa and Italy. After returning from the war, he began his career as an analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a time he looked upon with great fondness. He later worked as the chief staff accountant for Colgate-Palmolive in Jersey City until retiring in 1980. Howard was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Jersey City; an active alumnus of St. Peter's College and a resident of The Chelsea Assisted Living in Fanwood. Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen M. (nee Carroll); daughter, Theresa Mahler-Jones and his eight siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Cecelia Shaw and Ellen Greaves; sons, Kenneth, Martin, Timothy, Lawrence, Christopher and Stephen Mahler; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
