Deceased Name: MAHLER , WARREN J.
Warren J. Mahler passed away peacefully in his home on March 28, 2008, at the age of 86. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Warren, a son of Edward and Nellie Mahler was born in Jersey City , New Jersey , on October 27, 1921. During World War II he served in the Army and was made Company Commander and promoted to Captain. After the War, he joined Minneapolis Honeywell but was then recalled to duty by the Air Force during the Korean War. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his work with Air Force contracts in mandating compliance with their terms and conditions. Returning to civilian life after the War, Warren accepted a position with General Atomic Company in Contract Administration. He was active in the National Contract Management Association where he was president of the San Diego Chapter, and recognized as a Certified rofessional Contracts Manager. He held the position of Purchasing Manager when he retired. Warren held a B.S. degree in Business Management from Rutgers University, graduate of the Command Staff College of AIR University Extension Institute, held a private pilot's license with Land and Sea ratings and was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officers Association. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Rserve as a Lt. Colonel. In retirement, Warren enjoyed playing golf every week at Miramar Golf Course with long-time friends. He actively served his community by joining the San Diego Chapter of the Service Crops of Retired Executives for 15 years and was an emeritus member. He was a long-term parishioner of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in La Jolla . He is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 58 years, three sons, William and wife Donna of Las Vegas, Raymond of San Diego, and Peter of Missoula, Montana; two daughters, Joan Mahler-Heinen and husband John of Portland , Oregon, and Anne Mahler of San Diego; brother Howard of Bayonne, New Jersey , and numerous nieces and nephews . Warren was well loved by family and friends and he will be deeply missed . Visitation will take place at the El Camino Memorial Pacific Beach Chapel, 4710 Cass Street, Pacific Beach, between the hours of _4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3rd, with Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Private family internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego. A' funeral Mass will be held at Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in La Jolla on April 4th at 12 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held with time and place to be announced at the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the A.R.C. of San Diego, 9575 Aero Drive, San Diego, CA 92123, in Warren's name.
