Marie was born Oct. 9, 1930 in Woodbine to Howard and Gertrude (Poley) Mace. She grew up in Missouri Valley and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1948. Marie married Darrel Dean Bertelsen, June 26, 1948 in Missouri Valley. The couple resided near Beebeetown, where they farmed and raised their family. In 2003, Marie and Darrel moved into Missouri Valley.
Marie was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She belonged to the OBJ Club, Bunko Club, Church Women's Club, and was a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed crocheting and reading Harlequin romance novels.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include: her husband, Darrel, Missouri Valley; daughter, Linda Bertelsen and her friend Michael Kuhns, Modale; sons, Ellis and his wife, JoAnn, Smithville, Mo.; and Jack of Omaha; grandchildren, Jennifer Jo Bertelsen, Fort Collins, Colo; Tracy Ann Bertelsen, Cedar City, Utah; Carie Marie Bertelsen, Newport Beach, Calif.; Ellis Dale Robinson and Charles Dean Robinson, both of Missouri Valley; four great-grandsons; sisters, Esta Jones, Missouri Valley; Karen and her husband, Ken Moore of Idaho; Carol and her husband, Bob Lance, Missouri Valley; and brother, Howard Mace of Wisconsin.
Visitation with the family will be held today (Friday, Sept. 16) at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley, from 6: 30 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Neola, Sara Jensen, officiant. Organist will be Ilene Killpack, vocalists will be Clifford Killpack and Bill Stevens.
Casket bearers will be Gary Tripp, Leonard Powell, Arlan Darrington, Ronnie Tripp, John Bertelsen, and Frank Killpack, Jr. Interment will be in the Boomer Township Cemetery, Neola.
