Karen Kay Moore, 79, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 11, 2023. Her family was at her bedside. Born Karen Kay Mace in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Jan. 24, 1944, fourth of five children born to Gertrude Fern (Powley) and Clarence Howard Mace.

Karen grew up in Missouri Valley, Iowa, graduating from Missouri Valley High School in 1962. She was a majorette in the marching band. She married Marion "Buddy" Alexander and had a daughter Lisa Marie Alexander. They later divorced in 1973.

On May 31, 1974, she married Kenneth L. Moore. They made their home in Rosemount, Minn. A son by Ken's first marriage, Kenny joined the family, followed by the birth of Anthony Michael Moore in 1975.

The family moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1976, buying a new house that remains the family home today. Their daughter Shannan Karen was born in 1977. Karen worked at home raising the family. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and any activity that involved her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. She claimed all the kids as hers even if they were not hers biologically.

She dearly loved the Lord, having been baptized at a young age. She was a longtime member at Emmanual Baptist Church, enjoying her many friends there. Karen may have had an affection for her 25th wedding present, a dark blue 1998 Mustang Convertible.

Karen is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth at the family home; daughters, Lisa (Robin) Hegney of Colville, Wash., and Dawn (Troy) Malcolm of Astoria, Ore.; sons Kenneth (Shanon) Moore, Anthony (Stacey) Moore both of Post Falls, Idaho, and Glen (Danielle) Moore of Cypress, Texas; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family preceding her in death from the state of Iowa include her parents, Howard and Gertrude Mace; her sisters Marie (Darryl) Bertelson, Esta (Casey) Jones and Carol (Robert) Lance); brother Pastor Howard (Evelyn) Mace; and her daughter, Shannan Karen Moore-Normington from Coeur d'Alene.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2023, at Yates Funeral Homes — Hayden Chapel (373 E. Hayden Ave. Hayden, Idaho 83835). A funeral service will follow the viewing at 10 a.m. Karen will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene.
