Crockett Mutter, 74, of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Wednesday morning in a Richlands hospital following a long illness.

Born at Paintlick, Va., he was a son of the late Benjamin F. and Lillie Lockhart Mutter, both Tazewell County, Va. natives. He had been a life long resident of the Cedar Bluff and Paintlick areas. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Uva Claypool Mutter; three daughters, Mrs. J.R. (Eugenia) Tatum of Blountville, Va., Mrs. C.D. (Ruth) Shufflebarger of Bastian, Va., and Mrs. Jim (Orpha) Reid of Huntsville, Ala.; one son, Ben David Mutter; one sister, Mrs. R.E. (Angeline) Brown of Richlands, Va.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Va., with Dr. James B. Hollenhead and Rev. Ralph M. Kidd Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be W.R. Williams Jr., Dr. James H. McVey, Walter Taylor, Daniel Snapp, W.G. Jackson Jr., Gordon Farmer, Chuck Trent, Kenneth Trent and Burl Trent, along with the men of the Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church.
