He was the son of Dr. Cornelius Luce and his first wife, Olive Foster (1761-1796), whose place of burial is unknown as of January 4, 2015. His parents married in 1780 and were the parents of Vinal, Elizabeth, Jane Deborah, Sophia, John Manley and William Foster Luce.

His friends are invited to the funeral, to take place from his late residence, corner of 14th and H Streets, at 10 o’clock tomorrow.
