JOPLIN, MO — Mildred Blevins, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 4, 2010, in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Alba, Mo., on Nov. 1, 1920, to Floyd and Ruth Leatherbury.

She was married to her beloved Bob Blevins for 17 years. They were married on May 11, 1973, in Joplin. He preceded her in death in 1990.

After graduating from Joplin High School in 1937, she moved to Los Angeles, and married Harold Campbell. They had one child, Nancy.

While in Los Angeles, she worked at Lockheed Aircraft and after World War II returned to Joplin. She worked at Skaggs Pharmacy in Joplin, as a pharmacy technician for 16 years before retiring in 1982.

She loved cooking and loved to cook for other people and loved to cook and take food to the sick.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dan Carr, of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Sharon Carr, of Chicago, Ill.; and grandson, Steve Carr and wife, Lori, of Dallas; and two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Ariel, of Dallas. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Dottie Cowan, of Bethel, Pa.; and a step granddaughter, Deborah James and her two sons, Kevin and David, of North Carolina. She loved and appreciated her dear niece, Linda Estes and her husband, Dale, of Orlando, Fla., and their two sons, Michael and Matthew, also of Orlando.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Newdigger, of Joplin.

She was a long time and faithful member of Central Christian Center.

A very special thanks goes out to Connie Ernest for the love, caring and support she provided for many years. Another special thank you and appreciation to Jan Nilges, who provided compassionate, loving and professional care for her during the final year and a half of her life. We can never thank you enough.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary.
