Charlotte Kohler, the first child of John and Amanda Stebbins Kohler, was born on 8 Sep 1883 in Hobart Township, Minnesota, most probably in the family's homestead cabin. Her nickname throughout her life was Lottie. As the first born child, she spent a good part of her young life helping her mother with the needs of the family.

Lottie married Rutherford (Rufus) Hayes King on 12 Feb 1900 in Becker County, Minnesota. She spent her adulthood raising her children, John, Ralph, Mary (Mae), and Blanche, and also helping her husband with his various business ventures including running a farm. Lottie also was very active in the Rebekahs of Wild Rose Rebekah Lodge, a service-oriented organization and a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Lottie passed away on 11 Jan 1947 in Frazee, Minnesota and is interred in Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee.
