Ogden – Irene Pearl Cobbledick, born to Francis and Irene Kimmins in Detroit, Michigan, July 6, 1926 passed away October 21, 2011. Undoubtedly, she's off to find every movie star she ever fell in love with growing up – which was all of them.
At age seventeen, Irene found herself on her own in Libby, Montana and worked as a hardware clerk, then as a telephone switchboard operator. It was there she met Dean Cobbledick. The two were wed August 5, 1945.
After the birth of their third child, the family moved to Ogden, Utah, where Irene worked as a mechanic at Hill Air Force Base and earned her nursing degree. She started working at St. Benedict's Hospital in 1965 and looked forward to it every day for twenty-eight years.
Irene was a doll collector; a passion that resulted in a space filled with more dolls than you'd think could fit in a single room. She loved three things above all other: a good book, a good comedy, and her family. She took great pleasure in catching up, reminiscing, and listening to the future plans of friends and her grandchildren. Irene was always ready with a shoulder to cry on or a piece of advice and always a wisecrack.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie and Karen; sons, Dean, Alvin, Gary, and Paul; daughter-in-law, Yvonne; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Tommy.
Graveside services will be held at 1p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 26th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Myers Ogden Mortuary, in Irene's behalf.
