Vernon Keahey was born March 3, 1907 in Crawford, OK to Ura Survilla and John Wesley Keahey and passed away September 13, 1995 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 10 days.
   Vernon grew up in Crawford, attending Little Crawford School. He later attended Hammon High School. During his time at Hammon School he excelled in all sports, winning many track medals. After graduating in 1927 he worked for several businesses in Cheyenne. He then worked for a pipeline construction company around Tulsa, later returning to the Crawford area where he farmed and ranched for the rest of his life.
   Vernon married Inez LaVerne Young on October 15, 1940 in Clinton, OK. Soon after their marriage he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he returned to Crawford. Besides farming and ranching he operated a dairy for several years. He married Lona Mae Cooper on May 26, 1991. Vernon served as a director on the Elk City Community Hospital Board from 1966 to 1978, secretary for the Roger Mills County Fair Board for a number of years, and was awarded a honorary 4-H membership for his services to area 4-H clubs.
   He was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church and served on the church board for several years. Vernon was a loving husband, a wonderful loving father to his children and a true friend to his friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife [Inez], 1 son Gary Elbridge Keahey, 1 sister Lorene Luper, 1 half-sister Della Eads and 4 brothers, Johnnie, Gerald, Alton and L.B.
   Vernon is survived by his wife, Lona Mae Keahey, Cheyenne, OK; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Greg Duggan, Dalhart, TX; 1 son and daughter in law, Charles and Mollie Keahey, Crawford, OK; 1 stepson, Tom Cooper and wife Donna, Edmond, OK; 2 sisters, Lois Painter, Tulia, TX and Audrey Rorabough, San Luis Obispo, CA; 3 brothers, Altus Keahey, White Deer, TX, Leon Keahey, Crawford, OK and Edwin Keahey, Berlin, OK; 6 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; a special friend Ida Belle White, Dumas, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
   Services were Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, 10:30 a.m. at the Magnolia Baptist Church officiated by Galen Isaacs and assisted by A.L. Martin. Interment was in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, OK under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
