David Edward Huggins, 73, of Tamaroa, passed away at 10:10 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at his residence.
David was a retired garment cutter at Bridal Originals in Du Quoin after 42 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa. He had been a Tamaroa volunteer fireman and had been in charge of maintenance and the grounds keeper at the Tamaroa Community Center. He was a former member and president of the board of education at both the Tamaroa high school and Tamaroa Grade School. He loved to watch his grand daughters participate in sports. David was a handyman to all of the widow women of Tamaroa.
He was born March 28, 1929 at Pinckneyville, the son of David and Grace (Ehler) Huggins.
He married Janelle Rice on December 30, 1950 at Tamaroa, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, son Jon Huggins and wife Diana of Swanwick, IL., daughter Charlotte Pestka and husband Dennis of Du Bois, grand daughters Paige and Brittany Pestka both of Du Bois, two brothers; Billie Richard Huggins of Du Quoin, Donald Brooks Huggins of Tamaroa, two aunts Elma Woolever of Pinckneyville, IL., and Hope Ehler of Tamaroa, IL., two nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Raymond Baggott officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment will be in Tamaroas Cemetery.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Tamaroa and will be accepted at the funeral home.
