Alva J. Helmig, aged 84, of Hope, Mo. died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Gardenview Care Center, O'Fallon, Mo. He was born September 29, 1923, in Osage County, Mo. the son of Frank and Elsie Mae (Moman) Helmig, both deceased. He was married June 18, 1947 ,in Linn, Mo. to Mary Lou Davis who proceeded him in death in May 8, 2002. Alva served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Oklahoma Church of Christ in Osage Co.,Mo. He loved the Lord and enjoyed playing the harmonica. He always enjoyed the opportunity to share his testimony and his gift of music. Survivors include: two daughters, Virginia D. Shields of Lone Dale, Mo. and Margaret G. Barber of Clarksville, Mo.; two sons, Alan R. Helmig of O'Fallon, Mo. and Dennis J. Helmig of Monroe City, Mo.; one sister, Lois Marie Helmig of Marshall, Texas; nine grand children and nine great-grand children. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Raymond, Buster, August, and Evert Helmig. Visitation will be Friday, December 7, 2007 at Morton Funeral home in Linn, Mo. Funeeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Oklahoma Church of Christ in Osage Co., Mo. with the Rev. Mark Gregor officiating. Internment will follow in the Oklahoma Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Oklahoma Church of Christ Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn, Mo. 573-897-2214.
