Funeral services for Esther A. Hays, 81, of Carlisle, were held today at 10:30 a.m. in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
She died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Carlisle Hospital.
Born June 6, 1919 in North Middleton Township, a daughter of the late Charles "Red" D. and Gertrude E. Stone Wickard and the widow of Edward A. Hays, she was a retired employee of Erie Frequency Control, Carlisle, with 25 years of service.
She was a member of Brethren in Christ Church, Carlisle, where she was a former toddler teacher, AARP, North Middleton Senior Citizens, and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Cumberland Fire Co., Carlisle. She was a former bowler for the Women's Major Bowling League and enjoyed crocheting.
Mrs. Hays is survived by three sons, Ralph E., Robert L. and Randy A. "Rat," all of Carlisle; two daughters, Marlene E. Kruger of Carlisle and Marian G. Cone of Shermans Dale; 17 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite A. Righter; four brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Alan Robinson officiated at services. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
