Richard Deaton Griffith, 65, Humboldt, KS, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at the Pinecrest Nursing Home, Humboldt, KS.
He was born on May 30, 1941 in Humboldt, KS, to Thomas A. and Ethel (Deaton) Griffith.
He was raised and attended schools in Humboldt, graduating from the local high school in 1959.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on June 17, 1966 and served as an administration technician for more than 17 years before retiring on Aug. 31, 1983, after completing 21 years of continued service. His rank on retirement was TSGT. During his years in the service he earned the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; the Air Force Good Conduct Medal; the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon.
He was a lifetime member of the Cecil J. Meeker Post No. 1654 V.F.W.
Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Lou Wilson and Sharon and Jim Shea, all of Chanute, KS; and a brother, Jerry Griffith, of Humboldt, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Thomas E., H.L., Ronald Dean, Bill and John Griffith; and two infant sisters, Meara Jean and Joyce Ann.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service will be Feb. 13, 2007 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas.
