Delma Lea Gary
1937 -- 2012
Tehachapi resident Delma Lea Gary passed away at her home on June 16. She was 74 years old. A funeral service was held on Friday, June 22, at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel and interment was at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin. Minister Russ Lawson officiated the services.
Delma was born on Aug. 9, 1937, in Anthony, N.M. She had one sibling, Bert, Jr., who was seven years old when she was born. When Delma was three months old, the family moved from Anthony, N.M., to Arvin. In 1948, she and her family moved to Tehachapi, leaving Bert, Jr. to finish high school and start college. Delma went to Tehachapi High School, graduating in 1955.
She met Gene Autry Gary, and they married in April of 1955. Together they had one son, Michael Gene Gary. Michael has four children: Michael Gene Gary, Jr., Michele Lea Gary, Sara Jane Gary and Robert Charles Gary. Delma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her time was devoted to home; this is what made her happy.
Delma is survived by her husband, son, the four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She has one surviving nephew, Larry Bert Jr. of Mojave. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1960, her father in 1993, and her brother in 2011.
