lfred Joseph Flerlage, 83, of Waldorf, Maryland died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Civista Medical Center.

Born October 5, 1925 in Gallant Green, Maryland, to the late August and Helen Margaret Janssen Flerlage.

Mr. Flerlage served 20 years in the United States Army and returned home to the family farm. He grew tobacco and loved gardening. He enjoyed reading - especially military history. He was a member of American Legion Post 231 and VFW Post 8674. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Flerlage is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Janssen Flerlage; daughter, Marlene F. Hoffman (Russell) and sons, Fred Flerlage (Margie); Bill Flerlage (Cathy); Jef Flerlage and Alfred Nick Flerlage (Beth); sisters, Erna Kreft and Clara Gardiner (Harold); grandchildren, Joey and Jennifer Hoffman, Katie Lecorchick, Courtney and Casey Flerlage, Jessie and Max Flerlage, Christopher Flerlage, Zach and Lexie Flerlage and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Flerlage was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister.

A Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 where prayers will be recited at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 11 am in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown. Interment will be Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 2pm at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
