Mrs. Doyle Presents Diplomas to 192 at Calvin Coolidge High.
Senior Class Speakers Tell of U. S. Efforts For Lasting Peace.
One hundred and ninety-two students of Calvin Coolidge High School received their diplomas from Mrs. Henry Grattan Doyle, president of the Board of Education, at commencement exercises last night.
Mrs. Doyle said she had come to Coolidge particularly to present the diplomas to two members of the graduating class, Patricia and Jacquelin Carlisle, twin nieces of Mr. Joseph A. Fox. The twins marched on to the stage together and received their diplomas at the same time.
The graduation addresses of the senior class speakers were based on the theme of "The United States Works for a Just and Lasting Peace." The welcoming address was made by John H. Johnson, president of the class, and the valedictory talk was made by Ruth Cooper.
Dr. C. E. Hawthorne of the Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church gave the invocation and benediction. The members of the class were:

Age 83, of Flint, passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 at Brian's House, Davison. Funeral Services will be 1PM Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. Rev. Marshall E. Delay officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery where Elizabeth's four sons and two grandsons, Donald A. Delay and Leonard T. Delay will serve as pallbearers. Visitaton will be 6-8PM Monday and 1-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Glad Tidings Tabernacle Church. Elizabeth was born April 4, 1925 in Durham County, North Carolina the son of the late John Roscoe Holder and Junia Elizabeth Sasser. Elizabeth graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School, Washington, DC in 1943, then married John Lindell Delay September 14, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2008. She was an excellent baker and seamstress, who crafted many wedding dresses for family and friends. Elizabeth was active in the Bristol United Methodist Church, serving on the Methodist Women's Council and singing in the choir with her beautiful soprano voice. Surviving are her 4 sons, John L. Delay Jr. (Joyce) of Port Huron, Robert F. Delay (Millie) of Swartz Creek, Mark D. Delay (Barbara) of Flint, Christopher A. Delay of Ovid; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, June Ellen Gunter and Nancy Jane Miller both of Durham, NC; brother, Henry Sasser Holder of Dillon, SC; sister-in-law, Frances Holder of Dillon, SC; and many loving family members. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, John Frank Holder and Daniel Thomas Holder; brother-in-law, E.C. Gunter; sister-in-law, Norma Holder.
