Lavonne E. Buss, 86, of Le Mars passed away suddenly Sunday, September 14, 2008 at her home in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars with Reverend Martin McDaniel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 6:00 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Visitations will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Braband, Gordon Criswell, Del Kellen, Earl Albert,, Drew Stevenson, and Roy Hawkins.

Lavonne Evelyn Criswell was born July 2, 1922 on the family farm near Seney, Iowa to Wilbur and Lila (Darville) Criswell. As a young girl, her father was died as a result of a farm accident. Her mother later married Ernest Weber. Lavonne attended country school near her home and later attended and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1940. Following graduation from high school, Lavonne attended Westmar College in Le Mars where she received her teaching certification. She taught country school for a number of years.

Lavonne was united in marriage to Harold L. Buss on January 15, 1947 at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Le Mars. Lavonne and Harold farmed near Le Mars for 10 years before moving to Fairfield, California where Harold worked for the California Department of Highways. Harold retired after 27 years of service and the couple moved back to Le Mars on December 30, 1984.

Lavonne and Harold joined the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars and Lavonne taught Sunday School for a number of years. In earlier years, Lavonne and Harold enjoyed square dancing and she also enjoyed sewing, reading, and playing the piano.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Harold Buss of Le Mars; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dusty Clay of Le Mars; 3 grandchildren: Matthew Clay and his wife Katy of Mankato, Minnesota, Andrew Clay and his wife Shelly of Seney, Iowa and their son Austin, and Jennifer Plueger and her husband Marty of Le Mars; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Beverly Weber of Le Mars and their children Patrick, Jeffery, and Desiree; and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Lila (Darville) Criswell; and her step-father, Ernest Weber.
