Bettye Suzanne Coppedge, 74, of Topeka, Kansas (formerly of Waxahachie) passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

She was born on May 18, 1934, in Sanger, Texas to Willie Ray and Helen Hicks Crawford. She married Donald LeRoy Coppedge in 1954.

Bettye and Don lived in several places in Texas: Ft. Hood, Sanger, Denton, Brownwood, and San Angelo before moving to Waxahachie in 1962. In Waxahachie, Bettye worked with Don at the Waxahachie Daily Light newspaper office for many years.She also was a teacher's aide at Northside Elementary school from 1974-1977.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed being part of all of their lives. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Bettye also found time to be a Cub Scout Den Mother. She traveled all over the state watching Cherokee Charmers perform, the WHS football and tennis teams play. As her grandchildren started playing sports, she traveled again to watch WHS tennis and soccer teams play. She was their best cheerleader.

In 1977 Bettye and Don moved to Miami, Oklahoma. They spent many years there enjoying their friends and family. They also learned to country western dance and became very good dancers. Bettye's favorite past time was reading.

Bettye and Don spent some years in Brownsville and Marble Falls, Texas but moved back to Waxahachie in 2002 when Don was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Don lost his battle with the disease in 2004. Bettye stayed in Waxahachie until November of 2007, and then she moved to Topeka, Kansas.

Memorial services will be held at 11a.m., Friday, March 13, 2009, at Coker Funeral Home in Sanger.Burial will follow at Sanger Cemetery.

Bettye is survived by a son, Derek Coppedge and his wife Annie, of Topeka, and two daughters, D'On Hensley and her husband Ray of Waxahachie and Denise Wilson of Marble Falls.She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wes Odom of Tyler, TX, Wade Odom of Stephenville, TX, Jason Odom and wife Julie of Wylie, TX, Katy Warsing and husband Paul of Waxahachie, Dane Coppedge and D'Ana Demoret and husband Darin of Topeka and Brooke Coppedge of Wichita. Bettye's great grandchildren are Caden and Cole Odom of Wylie and Tait and Gavin Warsing of Waxahachie. Bettye is also survived by two sisters, Kristie Sanders and husband John of Wylie and Karla Moomau and husband J.B. of Olathe, KS and numerous other family members. Bettye is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Dana Coppedge.
