VETERAN DIVINE DIES IN MONROE

Rev. Braxton Craig Is Victim of Heart Trouble; Funeral Services Today.

MONROE, Feb. 28.--Rev. Braxton Craig, 65, veteran Baptist minister, died this morning at the Ellen Fitzgerald hospital.

Mr. Craig was forced to give up his pastorate at Southport last June and retire to his plantation near Bakers because of heart disease which caused his death.

FUNERAL TODAY.
Funeral services will be held here at the home of Gillam Craig, the oldest son, tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and the body will be buried in the Monroe cemetery.

Mr. Craig was a brother of the former Governor Docke Craig. In 1888 he began his career in ministry.

The deceased was for five years pastor of the First Baptist church of Monroe. While he acquired the friendship of the entire community, he led in the accomplishment of many things for the betterment of the church and the religious life of the community.

MALTED BY ILLNESS.
Mr. Craig was called to the pastorate of the Baptist church at Southport where he served until last June when sickness forced him to give up his work.

He had held pastorates at Ahoskie, Norfolk, Va., Tarboro, Rocky Mount and several other places.

During the last few years of his life he gave invaluable assistance to the Baptist state convention in directing foreign mission campaigns.

Mr. Craig was married in 1886 to Miss Helen Wilson, daughter of the late T. J. Wilson of Chapel Hill. Mrs. Craig and the following children survive: Gillam Craig, B. B. Craig, Mrs. J. T. Shute, Jr., Margaret and Rebecca Craig of Monroe; T. J. Craig of Greensboro, and Mrs. G. B. Phillips, of Greensboro.
