GRAY: Iona Comer Etheridge, 78, of Stewart Avenue, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at her residence.

The daughter of the late James Thomas Comer and Martha Jewell Lifsey Comer, Mrs. Etheridge was born in Wayside on August 22, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of Jones County. She was a 1946 graduate of Jones County High School and was a retired postal worker with the United States Postal Service, having thirty years of service. Mrs. Etheridge was also formerly an associate with Noland's in Macon for twelve years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gray, where she attended the Lois Glawson Sunday School Class, and was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Etheridge was preceded in death by her husband: Bernard McNeel Etheridge.

Mrs. Etheridge is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law: Vivian and Ralph Brooks of Gordon and Betty Fay Pittman of Jones County; brothers and sisters-in-law: James and Hazel Comer and Melvin and Rachel Comer, all of Jones County and Malcolm and Treva Comer of Millington, Tennessee; and by her nieces and nephews: Pete Welch, Kema Brewer, Karla Brown, Thomas Comer, Beth Colvin, Jimmy Comer, John Comer, Sidney Pittman, Darlene Compton, Debra Sutton and Tommy Comer.
