In Memory of Arista Chance.

Arista Chance, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Chance, was born at Corning, Iowa, November 27, 1869 departed this life January 9, 1923, aged 53 years, 1 month and 12 days. He came with his parents to Kansas in 1888 and lived the most of his life near Andover. He lived on what is known as the John Bally farm 6 1/2 miles north of Rose Hill at the time of his passing. He united with the Friends church when a young man, and was married to Miss Flora Bales, May 30, 1897, to them were born 4 children. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Wheeler of Wichita, Anna Mona and Josephine, a little son passed away in infancy. Also five brothers, J.M. Chance of Rose Hill, Andrew Chance of Wayne, Nebraska, N.R. Chance of Wichita, S.G. Chance of Andover and Enoch Chance of Prescott, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Brown of Augusta, and Mrs. Sarah Curtis of Huron, South Dakota; and a host of friends and relatives as was evidenced by the large number attending the funeral at the Chapel Church, Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., there was over 100 cars in attendance and several teams. Rev. Burleigh conducted the services. Burial was at the Dunlap cemetery beside the little boy. Mr. Chance had been afflicted with a cancer for several years and had been preparing for the home beyond. He expressed, we are told, the assurance of God making his sufferings easy, but he died with pneumonia. He exposed himself with a severe cold and it turned to the fever. He was taken to Wichita hospital, Sunday the 7th and passed away just after 12:00 o'clock Tuesday morning.

Surely a good man and father has passed away. The whole community mourns.
