Blaine "BV" Campbell, long time resident of Guernsey, passed away Oct 13, 2011 at age 96 from complications of old age. He was living at an assisted living facility in Denver.
BV was born Feb 7, 1915 to Chester f. and Lettie D. Campbell in Fairview, the youngest of a family of eight.He was raised and schooled in the nearby Afton area until he enrolled in the education college at the University of Wyoming in 1934.
His bachelor's degree was funded by his first love,, music, playing his 'sax' in dance bands. he started his teaching career, teaching music and social studies at Guersney in 1939 but that was interrupted by four years in the Army Air Corps, 1941-1945, where he served his country as a fighter and bombardier pilot instructor.
His teaching career resumed at Lingle, Wyoming in 1945 but after two years he returned to Guersney as a teacher in 1947. He earned his masters degree in school administration in 1953, attending summer school, and became superintendent of the Guernsey school district in 1954 and later became superintendent of the consolidated Guernsey/Sunrise school district when it was formed.
BV continued his music teaching duties off and on during his entire tenure at Guernsey having regularly received superior ratings for his bands and for his individual student musicians in state competitions. He retired in 1980 after 35 years of service, remained in Guersney until 2001, and then spent the last 10 years of his life in Lake Havasu, Ariz., and finally in Denver.
Blaine was preceded in death by his parents and all seven of his brothers and sisters. His lovely wife Vera (Robinson), also from Afton, passed away in 1996.
He is succeeded in death by two sons, Virgil of Tucson, Ariz.,, and Kirk of Omaha, Neb., by four grandchildren, and by five great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service followed by an internment is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct 22 at the Afton Cemetery.
