Davis Campbell, 89, of Hemphill, died in his home in Hemphill Dec. 11, 2005. He was born in Center, to Davis Campbell and Loralie (Lollie) Belle Harrell Campbell Thomas in 1916.

Davis served his country with distinction in World War II and was an active member of VFW Post 10351 in Hemphill. His younger years were spent in Eagle Lake. His early working years were in the retail grocery business in Houston. In 1977, Dave married Edna Bowman Sharpless Campbell in Longview, where they resided and owned and operated several businesses until they retired to Hemphill in 2000.

Davis was predeceased by his parents; his first wife Zula Faye; brother Robert Harrell Campbell Sr.; sister, Mary Hight Thomas; son, James Sharpless; and granddaughter, Alayna Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; children, Kathy, Elaine, Wayne, Eddy, and Jackie; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nephews, R.H. and John; and niece, Dr. Sandra Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at the Starr Funeral Home chapel in Hemphill. Interment will be at Sandhill Cemetery in Center, with military graveside rites administered. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005. The family will be at the home at HC 53, Hemphill, Texas, 75948.
