ANN BLAKE CAMPBELL
Ann died on November 30, 2006, at the age of 94, in Houston, Texas. This was 69 days after the death of her beloved husband Trent Campbell, to whom she had been married for 69 years.
Ann was born on October 6, 1912, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Ann's mother, Josephine Meigs Blake, was the great-granddaughter of John Ross, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation who led his Nation on the Trail of Tears. Ann's father, James K. (Sandy) Blake, was the brother-in-law of Will Rogers. The Blakes moved from Oklahoma to California in the late 1920's when Mr. Blake became the Business Manager for Will Rogers.
Ann graduated from Beverly Hills High School and from the University of Southern California, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. Throughout her life she followed USC football and rooted for the fighting Trojans. She traveled to New York with her cousins, drove "Sadie", her Model T Ford, to Texas, rode polo ponies at her uncle's ranch and met Trent Campbell, who was working in Los Angeles.
Ann was a dedicated wife and mother who believed in the full cookie jar and the sympathetic ear. She was spirited, elegant and quick of wit.
She is survived by her son, Trent Campbell, and his wife, Bette, and her daughter, Blake Campbell Vaughn and her husband, Roswell (Sandy). She has four granddaughters, Tracy Campbell McKenzie, Deborah Campbell Dempsey, Ann Vaughn Hobson and Helen Vaughn Schmidt and seven great grandchildren, Hadley and Gehrig Gosselin, Blake, Kathleen and Henry Hobson and Mary Helen and David Schmidt.
The family would like to give special thanks to her private caregivers who gave of their abundant love and to the staff of the Forum at Memorial Woods for the kindness and care given to their mother.
