RICHARD TRENT CAMPBELL, 95, died peacefully on Saturday, the 23rd of September, 2006, in Houston, Texas.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard Thomas Campbell and Elizabeth Keen Campbell and his sister, Frances Campbell Pearce. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ann Blake Campbell; a son, Richard Trent Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Bette, and a daughter, Blake Campbell Vaughan and her husband, Roswell (Sandy). He has four granddaughters, Tracy Campbell McKenzie, Deborah Campbell Dempsey, Ann Vaughan Hobson and Helen Vaughan Schmidt and seven great grandchildren, Hadley and Gehrig Gosselin, Blake, Kathleen and Henry Hobson and Mary Helen and David Schmidt.

Born on December 16, 1910 in Olney, Texas, he later attended public schools in Lubbock, Texas and became an Eagle Scout in 1926. He received a BS in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1932, where he worked in the campus bookstore, was a member of the Centaurs fraternity and always had a full dance card.

After graduation, he worked for the Texas Highway Department, but being single, he was a depression casualty and was laid off in favor of married men with families. He moved to Los Angeles and worked as an engineer and salesman for the Steel Division of the Blue Diamond Corporation.

While in Los Angeles, he met and married Ann Blake in August of 1937, at the ranch home of Betty and Will Rogers, the bride's aunt and uncle. They made their home in San Antonio, Texas, where he was District Sales Manager for the Mosher Steel Company. They later moved to Houston, then Dallas, where he became Sales Manager for Mosher.

In 1949, he purchased Brandt Iron Works in San Antonio, which he operated as Campbell Steel Company until 1960, when he sold the business to Mosher Steel Company, becoming their Executive Vice President and later CEO until the sale of the company to Trinity Industries in 1985. In 1964 he merged his private investment company with a group of mutual funds operated by Texas Fund, Inc.

He was a major shareholder in and President of several of the funds, remaining active until the age of 82. He was appointed to the Texas Tech Board of Regents in 1969 and served for six years. Later he was honored as a Distinguished Engineer and Distinguished Alumni. He served on past Boards of Directors of the Bexar County National Bank (San Antonio), American Founders Life Insurance Company (Austin), American Institute of Steel Construction, Steel Plate Fabricators Association, Steel Service Center Institute, and as a trustee of Southwest Research Institute (San Antonio).

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and River Oaks Country Club. Best of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was graced with a happy disposition and a desire to live life to the fullest. The family would like to give special thanks to Sandra Duran, Rita Pantoja and Norma Ramirez for the kindness and special care given over the last years of his life.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Good Samaritan Foundation, 5615 Kirby Drive, Suite 610, Houston, Texas 77005 or the charity of your choice. A graveside service for the family will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
