Emma was born in Bucks County, PA and was the third child of Adam Kleinkauf and Maria Degel and a sister of Jonas Kleinkauf. Jonas named his daughter Emme "Frieda", who was born in 1892 after his sister Emma.

When Emma's parents moved to Los Angeles, CA in 11899, Emma moved with them and her sister Lillian and brothers: William, Frank and Sam.

Emma did not marry until late in life. After Emma married M. Caldwell in Los Angeles, they bought a house next door to her mother, where Emma lived until her mother died in 1927. Apparently Emma had no children. She died in Los Angeles, CA on March 27, 1961 when she was almost 92 years old.
