Obituary
James Milton Caldwell, to whom we pay tribute today and administer the last rites, was the son of John C. and Effie
Ann Caldwell. He was born October 2, 1866, on the Towne farm on the Carford Pike near Rattlesnake Creek. He was
one of a family of two sets of children, 14 in all. He grew to manhood in Highland County and on October 9, 1890, was united in marriage with Miss Mary Velma Cowman.
They went to housekeeping in Fayette County where twins were born to the, now Ruth Stephens of Hillsboro, Harold
Dixon of Norwood, Harold Caldwell, now residing in Samantha, was also born in Fayette County.
After about seven years there they moved to Highland County and to the present home where Ione Caldwell a home,
and Adeline Moeller of Cincinnati were born to them.
Mr. Caldwell spent his entire life in farming and in earlier years became a member of the Baptist Church. Then on March 13, 1912, he and his wife united with the Friends Church at Hardins Creek where he remained a valued member
until his death. He was a regular attender at church until failing health prevented. He believed in the church and the
cause it represents. Hardins Creek Church and community will miss him. He was a friendly and neighborly man ready
to lend a hand to one in need.
Jim especially enjoyed his family coming home and also going to visit them from time to time.
He had been in failing health for sometime but took a decided change for the worse about Christmas, 1941, and gradually came to the end which took place at his home with a part of his family about him at 11:20 o'clock on March 21, 1942, aged 75 years, 5 months, 19 days.
Leaving to mourn his going are his devoted wife, five children, grandchildren, one half-brother and one-half sister. Two grandchildren had preceded him in death.

Lead kindly light, amid the encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on.
The night is dark and I am far from home,
Lead Thou me on.
Keep Thou my feet. I do not ask to see,
The distant scene. One step enough for me.
