Junior, as he was commonly known, was born in Thorndale, Texas, to the late Hugh and Mary Ethel (Jackson) Caffey. Following the untimely death of his mother, Junior was blessed to have stepmother, Hattie (Tucker) Caffey. Raised during the Great Depression, Junior quickly learned to live within his means and be thankful for everything the Lord provided. After graduating from Thorndale High School in 1945, he worked at a local gasoline station for his future in-laws, Alfred E. and Minnie (Moerbe) Becker. On Jan. 9, 1953, Junior married Peggy A. Becker.
For 32 years, Junior felt blessed to have a job at the Alcoa plant storeroom. With only a high school diploma but an undeniable work ethic, Junior rose through the ranks from clerk to superintendent before his retirement in 1983. Junior was actively involved in community service during his working and retirement years including terms as City Councilman and Mayor of Thorndale. He was also a youth baseball coach, bus driver on countless school field trips, and served on the church council at St. John Lutheran.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy; daughter Connie and husband, Mike, of Thorndale; son, Dale Caffey and wife, Shelley, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Michael Davenport, Johnny Davenport, Paul Davenport, Ryan Davenport, Chelsey (Davenport) Madsen, Jared Caffey and Erica Caffey.
