Peggy Artie Belle Becker Caffey, 83, a lifelong resident of Thorndale, was welcomed to heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 9, 2017.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 12, 2 p.m., at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor with Pastor Walter J. Miller officiating.

Burial will follow at Thorndale City Cemetery.

Peggy was born January 11, 1934 to Alfred E. and Minnie (Moerbe) Becker.

She became a Child of God through Holy Baptism on January 21, 1934 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale and received the Rite of Confirmation there in 1946.

Peggy graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1950 at Thorndale High School. She then attended Durham's Business College in Austin. On January 9, 1953, Peggy married Hugh Caffey, Jr. with whom she enjoyed the next 60 years. Junior preceded her in death in 2013.

In addition to wife and mother, two jobs in which she greatly excelled, Peggy worked as a teacher's aide at Thorndale ISD during her children's elementary years and two stints at Alcoa totaling 25 years. Having been born in the midst of the Great Depression, Peggy was always thankful for employment and constantly reminded her children that they should be thankful as well.

Most importantly, Peggy served as spiritual leader of the family and saw to it that her children attended church every Sunday. To Peggy's delight, both of her children received the Rite of Confirmation at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Working with the Holy Spirit, Peggy was a major influence in Junior's decision to join and become an active member of the church.

In addition to Junior, Peggy was preceded in death by her father, mother, and son-in-law Mike Davenport.

Survivors include daughter, Connie Davenport of Thorndale; son, Dale Caffey and wife Shelley of Hewitt; grandchildren, Michael Davenport of Dallas; Johnny Davenport of Henderson, Nevada; Paul Davenport and wife Kathy of Honolulu, Hawaii; Ryan Davenport and wife Allison of Thorndale; Chelsey (Davenport) Madsen and husband Ryan, of Canyon Lake; Jared Caffey of Stephenville; and Erica Caffey of Galveston.

Surviving great-grandchildren are Tyler Davenport, Jacob Davenport, Brice Davenport, Shane Davenport, Kaitlin Davenport, Gage Davenport, Presley Davenport, Kennedy Davenport, Brock Hillman and Ella Hillman.

Additional survivors include sister, Delois Becker Sefcik and husband Gene of Taylor; and special friend, Tye Wilson of Thorndale.

Pallbearers are Neil Weise, Ryan Davenport, Michael Davenport, Jared Caffey, Floyd Zuehlke Jr., and Meredith Conoley. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Becker, Roy Becker, Floyd Zuehlke, Sr., and Donald Joe Janske.
