Reverand Scott James Allen Buchanan, 31, a Roman Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Charleston, died Saturday, Januray 6, 2001 in Columbia.
Rev. Buchanan was a son of Carol Ann Buchanan and Gary Moore Ganson. He graduated from St. Andrew's high school and the College of Charleston. Rev. Buchanan attended St. Charles Seminary in Philidelphia, Pa. and completed Seminary in Rome, Italy with a degree and licenciate in Church History from the Gregorian University while at the Pontifical North American College. Rev. Buchanan was ordained on July 12, 1997 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, SC. His assignments after ordination were Nativity Catholic Church on James Island, St. Anthony's in Florence. St. Louis in Dillion and Church of the Infant Jesus in Marion, all in South Carolina. His current assignments were Administrator at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Holly Hill and Moderator at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Summerton.
Rev. Buchanan is survived by his mother of Charleston, his father of Virginia; a brother, Gray McKay Buchanan of Nashville; a sister in-law, April Odom Buchanan also of Nashville; Great Aunts, Great Uncles, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
The Relatives and Friends of Rev. Scott Buchanan are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00PM, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad St. Charleston on Tuesday evening. The family will receive friends following the Vigil Service.
